President’s Message 2009-2010

Dear Members and Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new and returning members to the 2009 – 2010 curling season at the Richmond Curling Club.  The Board of Directors and staff   are committed to making this an enjoyable curling year.
Richmond Curling Club offers curling at all levels of interest from Little Rocks to Seniors both during the day and in the evenings.  Our Daytime programme is one of the best in the area and attracts a large and diverse membership. Our evening curling provides for all ability levels with mixed, men’s and women’s draw curling, as well as competitive leagues. Thanks to our many generous volunteers, we are also able to provide many spiels and special events during the year. Additional volunteers are always welcome.
I encourage our members to take full  advantage of  our curling  programmes; this is your club, so enjoy it and have fun.  I wish you good curling, good fellowship and good  times  in the upcoming season.

Yours truly,
Anne McCready
President.

About the Club

The Richmond Curling Club has been operated entirely by its members since it was established in 1960. The club is managed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee who are elected to their positions at the Annual General Meeting by members in good standing.  Membership is open to all and is maintained by the payment of an annual membership fee.  These fees are established based upon the cost of operating the club and the maintenance of a capital fund for long-term equipment replacement.  In order to minimize membership fees, members are encouraged to volunteer their services in support of various activities within the club.  There are several membership categories, which are all defined by restrictions in privileges of ice utilization.  These restrictions do not change your membership association with the club nor do they change your expected volunteering commitment.  Members will see sign up sheets and notices around the club, which offer the opportunity to support the various operations of the club including KITCHEN, JUNIOR INSTRUCTION, PROPERTY and SPECIAL EVENTS.  Look for representatives of these committees and choose how you want to be involved.

Enjoying the Club

Members are invited to utilize the services of the club to the fullest extent possible.  Members’ guests are welcome to watch the curling activity and participate in the many social events that are ongoing in the club.  The use of the ice surface is defined by the membership category and the schedule of draws.  In draw curling, teams are formed on a 4-5 week basis from the list of members who have signed up for the draw.  It is the member’s responsibility to ensure they are signed up for the draws in which they intend to participate and no names are automatically transferred.  Teams for fixed rink competition are established at the start of the year.  Teams may be entered as a complete entity or individuals may submit their names to the Draw Master who will match then up with other individuals looking to form a team.  Curlers are expected to make themselves available for events they have signed up for and in the event that they cannot make a specific game it is their responsibility to arrange for a spare to take their place..
