President’s Message 2007-2008

Members and Friends,

The 2007-2008 curling season is fast approaching and it will soon be time to strap on those curling shoes and sliders. This year’s Board of Directors is determined to ensure that new and returning members have an enjoyable curling season. A list of all of the members of the Board of Directors is posted in the Club and on our Web site. Please feel free to contact any of these people if you have any questions regarding the curling season or the Club’s operations.
For your convenience, information concerning the Club’s fee structure, terms and conditions, curling programs, and clinics are contained in booklet format (available at registration) and on the Web site.
The Richmond Curling Club is renowned in the area for its great ice, good food and friendly atmosphere. Our reputation is based in part by the many volunteers needed to make things happen at our club. There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the curling season (especially for kitchen help) and it is important that members get involved in our club by volunteering and lending a hand when possible.
We are an extremely busy club and take pride in offering curling programs for any and all who are interested in participating in the sport. The Club offers leagues and draws for all curling levels, from novice to competitive, and has one of the best daytime programs in the area. As a result, the Richmond Curling Club has a large and diverse membership.
I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on the ice and wish everyone a fun filled and enjoyable curling season.

Sincerely,

Tim Brown
President

About the Club

The Richmond Curling Club has been operated entirely by its members since it was established in 1960. The club is managed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee who are elected to their positions at the Annual General Meeting by members in good standing.  Membership is open to all and is maintained by the payment of an annual membership fee.  These fees are established based upon the cost of operating the club and the maintenance of a capital fund for long-term equipment replacement.  In order to minimize membership fees, members are encouraged to volunteer their services in support of various activities within the club.  There are several membership categories, which are all defined by restrictions in privileges of ice utilization.  These restrictions do not change your membership association with the club nor do they change your expected volunteering commitment.  Members will see sign up sheets and notices around the club, which offer the opportunity to support the various operations of the club including KITCHEN, JUNIOR INSTRUCTION, PROPERTY and SPECIAL EVENTS.  Look for representatives of these committees and choose how you want to be involved.

Enjoying the Club

Members are invited to utilize the services of the club to the fullest extent possible.  Members’ guests are welcome to watch the curling activity and participate in the many social events that are ongoing in the club.  The use of the ice surface is defined by the membership category and the schedule of draws.  In draw curling, teams are formed on a 4-5 week basis from the list of members who have signed up for the draw.  It is the member’s responsibility to ensure they are signed up for the draws in which they intend to participate and no names are automatically transferred.  Teams for fixed rink competition are established at the start of the year.  Teams may be entered as a complete entity or individuals may submit their names to the Draw Master who will match then up with other individuals looking to form a team.  Curlers are expected to make themselves available for events they have signed up for and in the event that they cannot make a specific game it is their responsibility to arrange for a spare to take their place..
